I used to work with a guy named Jose. I never really gave much thought to the fact that he was Mexican. I mean, I knew he was "Mexican" but I never really thought much about what that entailed.
He was rather stressed out in the job, and when he told us he was leaving, I asked what his plans were. He said he was going to Mexico for a month. I said something about him going back to Mexico. He laughed, and I asked him why? At first he said "nothing," but I asked him again and he said it was funny that everyone always thinks he is from Mexico. I thought that was kind of funny because until he said he was going down there for a length of time, it hadn't occurred to me that he might actually be from there.
