We got home from work today, to find that our road is going to be closed on monday, for chip sealing. This gives us one day to find out whether we have to make arrangements. And we're supposed to be having work done on the house that day, so I'm not sure if or when they'll be able to get here.

Then, our microwave oven quit on us. It can't be that old! I'd better not have to drill more holes in my cabinets and/or walls for the new one.

Then I ran out of gas while mowing the lawn. Okay, that's purely my fault.

I'm still a little annoyed that they changed our trash pickup. They are forcing us to use their wheeled bins. First, these bins are huge (one for trash, one for recycling). We had to clear out a spot for them in the garage, since they're way bigger than our regular sized trash can. Now we'll have to move Cindy's car out of the garage, just to get them to the curb. This is a cost-savings measure, since they can use automated trucks to pick up the bins. And they'll only take what's in the bins, so I can't put extra stuff out. Granted, the bins are fairly big, so that helps, but I'll probably end up paying extra to take stuff to the dump myself, at some point.

We had a little rain over the weekend. Not much, but it helps. It was supposed to rain last night, but didn't. Chance of T-storms for sunday.

We've been using wheeled bins for several years now. With that change came the fantastic idea of alternating weeks with garbage/recycling pick-up. So now our garbage only gets picked up every two weeks. Brilliant idea in a hot summer. It takes some careful planning sometimes to get rid of everything!

Yeah, that would be even worse. We already have trouble with our garage stinking of garbage, sometimes. We don't have anyplace to put the bins outside.

They do our recycling only every other week, and that's fine.

We have been using those bins for several years but we do put it behind the garage. We had the same issue with the main hwy by our house a couple of years ago with NO notice. We had to be creative with back roads just to get to work. I don't envy your issue!

I'm not as worried about finding a route, as I am about whether I can actually get out of my driveway. They're spraying liquid chip sealer, and I don't know how long that takes to dry. With my luck, they'd come by the house just as I was ready to leave work.

If absolutely necessary, I could put the bins on the side of the garage, but I'd have to remove some shrubbery!

I hated them (although the garage was big enough). Well, hate is too harsh - they were always a dumb annoyance. They were so huge, that I thought we only needed to put out trash every 3 weeks.

Again, though, the garage was big enough & the smell wasn't overwhelming that we didn't have to do it every week.

We don't get curbside pick-up here. We have to take our garbage to dumpsters ourselves. They're located at various points around the neighbourhood and we're fairly lucky as ours aren't too far away (half a block or so).

But that road issue is a pain.

First-world problems!

I have to load up the truck and go to the dump. Period. On the other hand, I don't have to pay for garbage service.

I did have a bear come on to the deck and get into the garbage can in the middle of the night, though.... he was big.
