I went to Chicago Scot's Scottish Fest & Highland Games yesterday. My dad drove, and he took me, Larry, Jack and Ian.
I was looking forward to seeing the heavy games, and the pipe and drum bands, and maybe some dancing, and all the stuff that I missed at the Milwaukee games. It started out well enough. I got some food, hung out for a bit at the clan tents, and saw the hammer throw contest.
But then the whisky opened. After a couple of hours there, I went back to the clan tents for a while. Then we had to take Larry to sample a couple of malts. I spent another hour there. By that time, things were winding down. I listened to a band for a bit. Waited for the closing ceremony and massed bands. Then by the time that started, Ian wasn't doing well, so we left early to beat the rush.

They were giving out tiny 1/4 oz. pours. That was about two sips. Then I'd rinse out my glass and drink the couple ounces of water. It was not a good tasting environment. It was an open air tent, situated near the food vendors. There were cigars there, and it was a very windy day. And after so many whiskies, you're not tasting them all that well anyway.

It smells bad too? I find that a little surprising. You probably just haven't found the good-smelling Scotch whiskies. :-)
