I laughed but wanted to cry too. This is all so true and makes my heart sore.
One year, I took Ian to a convenience store and told him that the toys on a rack were his birthday present that year,and he could choose one he liked.
(I had a couple of bucks saved)
He took his time and perused the cheesy cheap crap until he found what he was happiest with.

It's so true. I buy clothes like a poor person. I have just enough to get me through the work week, and anything bought just because it's pretty is a wasteful luxury. Guilt guilt guilt.

It's probably why I don't stock up the cupboards and fridge with more than what we'd eat in a week.
