Did a Scotch tasting last night. Everyone chipped in, and I bought three bottles. Tomatin Decades, Oban 18-year, and a 24-year Signatory cask strength Bowmore. They were disappointing. The Bowmore was perfumey. My dad and I didn't much like it, though everyone else seemed to enjoy it. The Tomatin had something objectionable in it, but again, nobody else seemed to mind. It was quite different, even aside from that, and I wanted to like it, but just couldn't. The Oban was quite excellent. I think it was the crowd favorite of the night.
Jason brought two bottles along, that we added to the lineup. Glen Moray 12 and Glenmorangie Finealta. Both were good, though unspectacular. My dad had the cheap John Barr Black as a mystery Scotch. In addition, Chris brought Glenlivet 15 as an extra (and Steve said he forgot to bring that same one), and Mike opened his Johnnie Walker Gold and Lagavulin.
The two most expensive whiskies were finished by the time my dad and I left at 2:30, and the others were anywhere from 1/3 to 2/3 gone. Seems like the nine of us drank less than we did last time. As usual, I was moving a little slowly this morning.
