Actually "Amazing Grace" has a cadence that fits into lots of melodies. One of the funnier ones I've heard is to the tune of the Theme from "Gilligan's Island".
When I got in my car after work last night, House Of The Rising Sun was playing so I tried singing Amazing Grace with it. I got as far as "that saved a wretch like me" and then I automatically switched to the regular words. It's "amazing" how similar those songs are.
When I was in high school a group of guys in my youth group got together and formed something of a band and performed this for a church talent show.
I was the "keyboardist" for the group... I wasn't very good, but I was taking piano lessons at the time and I had a cheap Yamaha electric keyboard, which was good enough to be a member of the group.
There's a radio programme here called I'm Sorry, I Haven't a Clue. One of the things they do is "One song to the tune of another", and it's always funny.
I've been trying to do this one in my head, but the tune keeps ending up as Amazing Grace. Gnnn!
