For the last full day of my trip, I decided to start out at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park. I had seen the Grand Canyon the day before, and this place had Indian pictographs. It was the opposite direction from Grand Canyon, so I headed up fairly early. I got to the park office a little before 9:00, and apparently they don't open that early, because I had to wait a while for someone to show up. I would have gone on by myself, but I didn't know where to go.

The State park and adjoining BLM land is a recreation area, which means the dunes are open to off-road vehicles. I never took my Jeep Grand Cherokee off of marked "roads", but there was a lot of deep sand, so they weren't exactly roads.

I made it out to the end of the road, found the trail, and set off into the canyon.

At the end of the trail was a large alcove with quite a few painted figures.

i never knew there were dunes out there. The sand trails/roads look like Lake Michigan parks without the lake.
;)
But I like the paintings best.
