Yesterday, at 5:00, I got a flu shot. After supper, around 7:30, I had an annoying cough. About 9:45, I noticed a slight headache, that was definitely the early signs of illness. After a while, it became worse, and then I noticed aches in the body. By the time I went to bed, at 11:45, I was chilled and shivering uncontrollably. I woke up at 2:00, sweating, and turned the heated mattress pad off. When I woke up around 9:00, I was still very warm, and didn't cool off until sometime after I got up. My head hurt for a while, but it went away after took an ibuprofen.

For the rest of the day, I've been a bit weak, my eyes are kinda gummy, my throat has a not-quite-right feeling, and my sense of taste is bad.

I had a very slight 24 hour reaction from a flu shot a few weeks ago. That's only the second time it's happened to me. I'd rather have that than the flu for a week and after-effects for a month, I guess. Your reaction was a lot rougher, though.

Yeah, mine was a nasty 12-hour reaction. I hope further illnesses this year are lessened or disappeared.

Did they say this happens sometimes? Thats a pretty major reaction! Maybe you should call the Dr.

While I was waiting, a woman came in and asked about that. The nurse said they use a dead virus culture, so getting sick is unlikely, and the vaccination doesn't prevent illness so much as lessens it.

I'm fine today.

What Donna said. Your reaction to the shot is not all that unusual, my Dad had something similar and he felt better the day after the day after the shot.

Take it easy, and drink lots of water.

The worst effects only lasted 12 hours. I felt under the weather for the rest of the day, but I'm fine today.
