As I mentioned, on Saturday, I joined a Flickr group for a photowalk. It was a couple hours, with some time at a bar beforehand, and a doughnut shop afterward.

This is Dean, at the Sherrif's Memorial, in front of the county courthouse.

On top of the Imax theater, at the public museum.

The Civil War memorial, with Gesu Church in the background.

The Wisconsin club, formerly the Mitchell Mansion (Alexander, then Gen. Billy).

Part of the group. I don't know many of the names of these people. Mark, in the gray shirt. The guy who is looking downward introduced himself, but I couldn't understand his name. Leroy on the far left.

I really like the sculpture on the Museum facade.
Nice photo, too.

Really cool stuff. I like the Imax theater - it looks like Buck Rodgers.

Did you do some manipulation on the Sheriff's Memorial? Because the writing seems to really stick out.

sharpening

I shot this one with a long lens, so even though the background was in the distance, everything in focus. When you resize a photo, it gets fuzzy, so you have to sharpen it. When I sharpened this one, the background was in focus too (all the branches, cars, gray ice and concrete) and the whole thing got a bit muddy (and branches sharpen more than other things, which throws it off even more). So then I separated the foreground from the background (using layers) so that after resizing, I could sharpen the subjects, and not the background.

I thought maybe you had done something like that, although I do not work in sophisticated image editing programs like you do. It doesn't really seem apparent when you look at it. Good stuff.

That's the whole idea. ;-) I want it to never be apparent what I did to a photo. You might be surprised at how much I did to the one of the museum. I should post the original. And you might be surprised that I did absolutely nothing to #2 and #4.
