I have a lot of work to do on my big project at work before the end of the year. I only have three days of work left, due to vacation and holiday time. I guess I'll be working a lot of overtime in those three remaining days.

My odometer passed 500 miles yesterday. I got my second tank of gas, and was going to check the gas mileage, but I didn't set the trip odometer last time. Nor this time. The dashboard says I get around 19 or 20 mpg.

We put plastic over our windows in the winter. All our windows are fairly new except the ones in the living room. Those are the ones we cover. I am convinced we save money on heating, even with the cost of the plastic. It's been windy lately, and the plastic is bulging inward. It looks like it's trapping a lot of wind. The other night, I could feel cold air rushing in around our front door, and my hand was a foot away from it. I put masking tape all around the edge of the door. After you open the door, and then close it, the tape mostly resticks itself. I'm sure it's saving us a fair amount of money too. Also the other night, the wind was blowing in around the garage door so strongly, that it was putting pressure on the door between the garage and the house.

I have off tomorrow and thursday. Tomorrow, I'm going to start my christmas shopping. And go visit my friend Doug. And maybe go shooting. Or maybe not. Thursday, I plan on cleaning the basement some more.

I updated the galleries on our website. It's been a year.

I am constantly annoyed by the action of the scroll wheel on Google Maps and many other similar services. The motion is not intuitive. When you pan around with your cursor, it is clear that you are moving the map. When you pull or push with your scroll wheel, you are moving yourself (your vantage point) up and down. This is particularly frustrating for me, because my programs at work, that I use all the time, are opposite.

Get Cyn to sew a long "sausage" sleeve. Fill it with sand and put along the bottom of the door. Movable, cheap and good insulation.

It's got a rubber "sweep" across the bottom, so the draft isn't bad down there. It's mainly along the side, and really bad at the latch. I improved the seal a couple of years ago, but I guess I need to get serious about it.

I'm convinced that having windows and doors that seal well is critical to living in hostile weather. And in very cold / hot country, I'm sure that just making an extra air-gap insulation box helps a lot, too.

:) You're on your third tank of gas, I'm on my second tank of oil.

work... sigh.. much much work.

I probably won't need a fill-up on oil until May. :-)

I agree - I'm always going to Google Maps and moving in the opposite direction as to where I should be moving.

It makes me wonder if they did it on purpose. "I don't care if every other program does it the other way. This is how I think it should be. And we're so big, everyone else will have to conform or risk looking like the idiots."

the plastic definitely helps.

I've heard people say it's a waste. I think they're just lazy. If they don't want to bother, that's their business, but they're kidding themselves if they think it doesn't really make a difference.
