We have several hundred CDs in the entertainment center. We have a five-disc changer in the stereo. When I want to listen to music, I choose for our five discs that go together reasonably well, load them up and press play. We listen to the set two or three times before changing them. I like listening to most albums all the way through. For most albums only particularly annoying songs get skipped.

I have several thousand songs on my computer. When I listen to music on my computer, I hit shuffle. I don't take the time to choose albums, I just press play. Since it's on shuffle, I only like to hear my favorites. All those "album tracks," that most people consider to be filler, sound great with the entire album, but when I'm bouncing my way through 4600 tracks, I don't need them.

I have to ask a question about something that would be obvious to someone with modern equipment--but it's something I don't know.

I understand about choosing five albums. It's the second "shuffle" part I have a question about. Are ALL you albums in shuffle? Only favorites? I need some help in understanding how 'shuffle' works.

The first paragraph is about listening to CDs. I always listen to CDs straight through, on the stereo.

The second paragraph is about the individual song files on my computer. I only transfer my favorite songs to the computer. They're all in one folder, and I tell my computer to play that folder. Then it starts playing the songs. It would play them in order, but I hit the "shuffle" button, which tells it to choose the songs randomly.

The only full-album mp3's I have are the ones I got from you. :-)

Immediate Music is kinda cool. I like the Suspense & Horror channel. I have a few TV theme songs, movie quotes and other odd things mixed in with my music. It's kinda funny.

I never did Pandora. I did have Yahoo Music for a while, and they made a few suggestions for me.

I started out putting all my songs in my music folder. Then, as I got more, I became a little more discriminating. Now, I'm very discriminating. And I think I need to go through my 4008 tracks, and trim a few before I add the next thousand.

I forgot to mention, I got a 1.5Tb drive from Newegg for $90. Thanks for the tip!

I discovered I only back up our computers about every year. Fortunately for me, I don't have as much to lose as you do. The Music can be replaced, and most of the photos I fix up are uploaded to websites, and/or the laptop and/or my mp3 player. But with this nice big box, I'm sure I'll be doing it more often. I don't know if I'll sync it up. That's pretty damn annoying with my mp3 players. I suppose it wouldn't be as bad with a hard drive.

Right now, I'm in the middle of trying to rip the rest of my Cd's, so it'll be a while before I need to seek out more music. But I'll be coming back to find Pandora.

And always copy, never move

I'm paranoid about losing files that way, now that I've gotten to the point of having to make room on my computer. That's one reason I'm getting this new drive. I'm using this one for backing up the computer, and the old one just for storing files I have to delete. Or maybe I'll use the new one for that also. eek!
