There's a poll at http://community.livejournal.com/eljayfeedback/515.html These are the results at the moment:

Do you want the new Facebook/Twitter crosspost option to stay?

Yes, I love it
4 (0.2%)

Yes, but with an opt-out for my use
16 (0.8%)

Okay, but only if I can opt-out of letting others use it on my journal/comments
576 (30.2%)

No, this was the worst idea since the ONTD-centric homepage
1288 (67.5%)

I'm neutral
16 (0.8%)

Other (explain in comments)
8 (0.4%)

I realize that people who like it or don't care probably won't be making a big effort to come out to vote, but I still think that 0.2% love it and 0.8% don't care is pretty funny.

I think this poll highlights the difference between FB and LJ. I don't even have a Twitter account.

The only reason I keep my FB account is so I can read family updates. I stopped posting there because I hate the public access and lack of privacy. I've been locking nearly all my LJ posts. If that stops working... I don't know what I'll do.

I responded in several of the polls and also sent them a feedback note. This journal is my HAVEN and the idea of having it turn public makes me sick.

Optioning out of cross-posting

Someone gave me a fix to this, which is the most painless option so far that I've come across:
Stop reposting in its tracks!

....

REPOSTING
This was posted in the geeklikewhoa community.

You're probably all aware that Livejournal now allows you to repost comments to Facebook and Twitter. This is a very unpopular new feature. Firefox has an addon that hides the new Facebook / Twitter repost ticky boxes. But here's a little line of code you can use to make it so that no one, no matter what browser they're using, can repost comments.

.b-repost-item {display:none}

Here's what to do:

1. Go to Custom CSS in Customize Journal Style. (http://www.livejournal.com/customize/options.bml?group=customcss)

2. Copy and paste .b-repost-item {display:none} into the Custom stylesheet box and save changes.

Voila! As you can see the boxes are hidden on the comm now :)

FYI I did not write this but it was doing the rounds on my f-list and I encourage you to share it.
I did what is suggested here, and, while it did hide the tick boxes on my comments page, the option to cross-post is still listed there. Boo!

I looked in your journal, and see the word "repost" under the comment box, but there's nothing next to it. Success, as far as I'm concerned. But then I'm not logged in to fb through lj.
Apparently you can still cross-post, but this helps I think.

It isn't that I don't care.. it is that I don't have time to do the 1 2 3 4 to stop it.

*sigh*

The internets was supposed to make my life LESS complicated and more better X1000!
