I just saw an article listing some major fashion-don'ts for men. I agreed with all of them except the baseball cap. First of all, I don't see anything wrong with them, as long as they somewhat go with the outfit (not with a suit!). But most of you are probably aware that I wear them all the time. There's a reason for it. I need a hat. My scalp can burn after an hour in the sun. I seldom wear sunglasses, and my eyes are sensitive to the sun, so I need the sunshade. I can't handle water in my eyes, so I can't be in the rain without a hat. And on windy days, it holds my comb-over down.

The only other alternative is a different style of hat. Know any? A fedora looks pretty dorky with a t-shirt. I have a cowboy hat, but it doesn't go with anything except my cowboy outfit. Ranger hat? Are you kidding? My pith helmet it not really made of pith, so it's rather heavy. My various styles of military surplus are even more casual attire than my baseball cap. So what else is there?

I was kidding about the comb-over.

There was also a mention of Hawaiian shirts being horrible. That gets a big ol' fuck you.

Thanks for making me laugh. I needed that.

How about as yarmulke? It would go well with your beard.

I saw one on a Website with a bill to shade your eyes. Of course, that brings us back to the baseball cap. Oh, wear the baseball cap!
You're a free spirit.

I don't know what the big deal is about hats either. As long as you don't wear a hat to a formal affair...who cares?

Had to laugh on the Hawaiian shirt comment. I am with you!!

Id like Hawaiian shirts too. So colorful and fun!

In fairness, the Hawaiian shirt problem came from women in the UK. I'm sure they have a different view of them over there, than we do.

My new man wears a Linux cap with long braid....t shirt and 501s with converse high tops.....Says he's worn this style his whole adult life and doesn't plan on changing unless he is forced to wear a suit. lol

I like it. :D

You look really different without a baseball cap and you wear them well.

I don't see anything wrong with a baseball cap, except that it leaves my ears unprotected, and the sides of my face.
On the other hand I don't like full brimmed hats either.
Try:

I was very doubtful about the bit over my neck, but have found it to be cooler than leaving my neck open. Of course it it really is intolerable, the flap has a tab of velcro so you can roll the back up. The brim is a bit wider than most ball caps, and extends a lot further around to the side. As I get older I find I want that protection for my eyes as it cuts the glare a lot. Not sure it is any dressier than a ball cap, but at least people don't think "redneck" when they see it!

I never have trouble with my ears burning, for some reason. Maybe because they're always exposed, and therefore tanned? The back of my neck used to shielded by my hair. Now, I use sunscreen on it.

I need to keep my eyes open for a hat like this.

Ummm...

They won't think redneck, but...

I can picture you in an Indiana Jones type hat....

But heck... WHO CARES what some style freaks think?

I wouldn't say it was a style freak, exactly. Yahoo asked women to submit the worst fashion thing that men do.

Ohhh... well still...

But,
I would put wearing socks with shorts and sandals on that list... :^)
And the lack of a belt on guys who really need one, if you get my drift...
And going shirtless in certain situations...
And "low riding" to the point where you have to walk funny to keep from losing your pants...

:^)

Oh and this...
I still consider all of the men and boys to be rude if they wear hats while eating or even indoors.
I'm old fashioned that way.

Forgot to say...

Socks and sandals was on that published list. And I'd agree with the rest of what you said. Except the hats indoors thing. I never really understood where that came from. Though I take mine off while I eat. I often forget the hat if I take it off when I'm somewhere. In fact, it's missing right now.

Not wearing hats indoors is a matter of good manners from way back. I guess having one on indoors is pointless since it is not needed indoors? The principal at my school would not allow the kids to wear them inside. I guess he also held to that *old fashioned* way of thinking. Of course the hats that men wore in previous generations were much bigger than a baseball cap and public establishments supplied places to put them.

Sorry you lost your hat!
