Last weekend, Cyn and I took a little trip, for our anniversary. I'd been wanting to take a mini vacation in central Wisconsin, and she'd been wanting to visit the places she'd lived in as a child.

On saturday morning we visited the town of Montello, just north of Portage.

We started with her nemesis, the scary water tower where the skeletons lived.

It turned out that Montello was having a festival that weekend - Moosefest. We were there pretty early, so there were no crowds yet (yet?). We saw Cyn's old home, plus the houses of some of her friends and neighbors, plus the church where her father preached. She spoke with someone who knew of some of her old friends.

Then we drove down to Baraboo. We had lunch at the Little Village Cafe (highly recommended) on the northwest corner of the square. The Al Ringling Theater was next door (previous post). After lunch, we went down by the river to see the historic Ringling Brothers Circus Winter headquarters.

Cyn was on the phone with Phone Support from the New York office.

After lunch, we drove down to Mazomanie. I still have no idea where the beach is, but I found the old, historic downtown area. It was pretty quiet, especially for a saturday afternoon, but I guess it was the off-season.

We made a too-quick stop at Tower Hill park, and saw a pre-Civil War-era shot tower, where they made bullets.

Then we ran down the road to Taliesin.

That's Frank Lloyd Wright's home, near Spring Green.

Photos weren't allowed inside, and I had a full tour group to contend with, not to mention camera troubles, but I got a few good shots.

Cyn and likethebeer, who showed us around a bit after our tour.

Sherpa, who accompanied us on much of our walk.

Afterwards, likethebeer invited us back to her place, where her partner MDA cooked us a great meal. It was good to meet him, and we enjoyed their company for not long enough before we had to head to our motel. I hadn't slept well the night before, and woke up early, so by the time we left, I was dead tired. We got lost on our way to Madison, so I collapsed into bed when we got there.

The next morning, we drove down to Brooklyn. Not much to see there - very small town. Cyn has no memories that we could visit but the church. The house she lived in was torn down.

We drove up to Monona, on the east side of Madison. We drove around and walked a bit, and then visited her old friend Mrs. Metry. She took us out for lunch. She's pretty sharp for 93 years old.

Then we came home.

She's called that because she accompanies the tours. She loves attention. She often likes being petted, and knows how to pose for the camera. She knows she's beautiful!

It sounds like a very nice little tour of small town WI. We like that sort of thing, too.
Did you take the two Mazomanie town center pictures seconds apart? It looks like one of those games where you have to find the 7 differences that exist in the second picture.
L:D

:-) The only thing that moved was the little silver car in the middle of the street. I can't even tell if the second hand moved, on the clock. It should have, so maybe that's not a second hand.

The flag is also waving in a slightly different position. I studied the two photos!
LOL

I think the clouds moved too. ;-)

If you cross your eyes a little when staring at the two pictures simultaneously, you'll see a 3D picture of Mazomanie in-between.

I figured that's what it was all about from Kevin's previous posts with that theme. But I can't cross my eyes!

OMG! Mrs. Metry's still alive?! That's wonderful.

Great pictures. The cafe in Baraboo looks really neat, and I love the photo of the "musical note retaining wall" at Taliesin; and the roof view.

You're getting really good at the 3-D photos! I'll think of you when I see that clock in Mazo my next time there.

Sherpa made her appearance on tour. And was loved. Which she always is. Great photo of her, thanks!

The cafe has good reviews from all over central Wisconsin.

Thanks!
