Remember A&P grocery stores? We used to have some around here, but they're long gone. I just found out that the corporate name is The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company. Founded in 1859.

My Mom told me that, in Whitesboro, NY, way back when. I asked her what the A&P "stood for". She was a pretty knowledgeable lady, I guess.

my first job besides a paper route was working at the a&p on martha's vineyard... i was 15 but i was tall and lied and said i was 16 to get the job. that was in the days before total information awareness and background checks and stuff... i was promoted from bag boy to cashier within the week.

that was a good summer. disposable income.

I never had a job when I was in high school, so I didn't have any money when I was that age. After high school, I lived with my mom for a long time, so I had lots of disposable income then.

I remember those stores! We had one right up the street (in Conemaugh, PA), and I used to go there with my mom when I was little. They gave 'green stamps' that you collected for gifts.
