Went to a Scotch tasting. My dad's one of the two Scotchmasters here at the St. Andrews Society, and he invited me to their tasting. They did the Classic Six - Glenkinchie, Cragganmore, Dalwhinnie, Oban, Talisker and Lagavulin. I liked them all except maybe the Cragganmore. Lagavulin is my favorite, but it tasted odd. I actually licked off my glass, hoping maybe I'd remove that odd flavor from it, but it didn't work. My dad thought he tasted soap on the glass. Talkisker was not well-liked among the crowd. Lagavulin has similarities with it, and the group seemed to be split.

Date: 2009-11-16 09:53 pm (UTC)From:We made a special trip to the distillery. They explained the process and showed us the shiny copper kit, then gave us the tiniest sample in a minuscule plastic cup. I bought a bottle, but I found it vary harsh. Wikipedia says '...may prove "challenging" for the casual whisky drinker.' Indeed so. Never had any since.
