The Cathedral of Seville isn't really known for its stained glass, but it has a few very nice pieces.

The design indicates that it was created in 1685, which is about the time that the top of the tower was completed and the statue placed on top (which can be seen in the image). Donna, who are these ladies? I know you told us more than once.

A nice rose window.

Wow.

The details!

I would love to know the story for each window. I'd like to take tours of the glass art with a docent who knew the intricate tales of the players behind the window creations.

One of the really interesting things we did in Germany was to see their gorgeous stained glass. Then we went to a factory/repair shop where they took windows that were centuries old and repaired them.

The ladies in the first picture are Saints Justa and Rufina, martyrs in Roman times. They are often shown with a lion laying at their feet because the lion refused to attack them as the story goes. They're dual patronesses of Seville as they supposedly lived here during the Roman Empire. Since they're patronesses the Giralda (symbol of Seville) is always shown with them in any artistic renditions. Little angels are holding their saintly halos over their heads.
:)

Those are wonderful windows. We'll have to take you to the city of León one day. The stained glass there is fabulous. Or I'll accompany you to Canterbury in England...that place is incredible and famous for stained glass.
