After leaving the castle, we stopped at a picturesque town called Zahara de la Sierra.

The bell tower of one of the churches in town. We had quite a walk up the hill.

Because it's perched on these rocks on the hillside.

The town is watched over by this Moorish tower. You can hike up there and go in (if you first pick up the key), but we didn't.

This street was particularly steep. Notice the handrail on the right. Click for detail.

This side of town has a nice view of the lake. And you can see what a grey day it was.

The other church we saw, and one of the few nonwhite buildings.

The back of the mountain on our way out of town.

Another nearby mountain.

I guess the main church has to stand out in a crowd, huh?
;)
I love the steep street and the back of the mountain picture. I'm stealing those.

I keep remembering how most of these places existed before cars - that changes things so much. The Midwest, in contrast, could be laid out, in ways, with a ruler. Not that town! That steep street is crazy! I can imagine little old Spanish men & women going up and down that every day - it's how you'd live to be 93.

I really like the 2nd church, too. And the photo w/all of the roofs - I love how they're different colors just because things have probably been replaced over time.

As a mover, I'm appalled. How do these people get their furniture?!
As me, I love it.
That first street scene could be San Fransisco.
