I'm trying to learn a little Spanish before the upcoming trip to Spain. I'm not learning very much. I've got a phrasebook, but it's Mexican Spanish, rather than Spanish Spanish. Between that and my poor pronunciation, Cyn thought it would be fun to have Manolo try to guess what I'm saying.

Podría ver un par de cuartos por favor?

Entiendo que este edifico tiene cuatrocientos años?

Es esta la sirvienta orignal?

Qué auténtico!

Mind you, I was in the Spanish class in high school in which the teacher said, "You are the first class I've ever encountered that got WORSE as the year went on."

"Can you tell me where to go for 4th street, please?"

"Is this the building that says 80 years:

"Is the serving woman original?"

"How authentic!"

****
Si

No

por que

pardon

After that, the Spanish gets mixed up w/the French. [I keep wanting to say, "pardonez moi" for "excuse me".] In fact, I don't think I remembered any of this correctly, 'cept for si & no.

I had a little Italian, so I need to take care that doesn't mix.

You'll have a great time, and as I've learned, people appreciate it if you try and aren't jerky.

*howls with laughter*

The first one here is asking to see a couple of rooms.

In the second you understand (they'd NEVER use the verb entender that way here) that this building is 400 years old.

The original servant? As in she's been here forever?

How authentic! (real)
Uh.......ok.

Everything else in the book was very Mexican.

Buen día Señor. Qué es eso?
Veo que es carne.
Pero de qué tipo?
No encuentro eso en mi dicionario.
Déme uno do todos modos.
Por Dios! Sin lechuga!
Qué no ve que soy gringo?

bueno suerte!
