Did you hear about how Milwaukee's mayor, Tom Barrett, got beaten up after going to the state fair on saturday night?

He heard a woman yelling for help, and told his sister to take the kids away. He confronted a guy who was arguing with the woman, trying to calm him down. When Barret pulled out his phone, the guy threatened him with a gun, and then punched him in the gut. He buckled, and the guy told him to lie on the ground. Barrett, fearing the guy would kill him, came up fighting. The guy pulled out an extendable baton and pummeled him with it.

Barrett's hand was shattered and was repaired in a three-hour surgery. A doctor put stitches in the mayor's head, and he had plastic surgery to repair another cut that extended from his cheek to his nose. He also lost some teeth.

I've been following the whole thing. Your mayor is so very, very brave!!! and I'm glad they arrested the guy who hurt him and was threatening his child and the child's grandmother. (I'm still so appalled. Grandmother! What is *wrong* with this guy??)

I'm very glad your mayor is recovering okay. I wish we had someone like him over here...
