Here are my pics of the parade, and pictures from the show grounds, before the parade.

The famous Golden Age of Chivalry wagon.

Several Wagons were covered in brilliant gold leaf.

This was the wardrobe department. They have over 1000 costumes to get ready for the parade.

The wagon on the left is a Cole Brothers Circus wagon, with an Asia theme. You can see busts of various sorts of Asian people. To the left, behind it, is their America wagon, with various sorts of Americans pictured. Like American Indians, Peruvians and Cubans. The America wagon is a steam calliope. It was powered by a gas engine that created steam. You can kinda see the steam through the barred windows. It generally has an operator and a player. It's very loud. The operator was wearing earmuffs. I hope they player had earplugs. The high notes were particularly painful.

A beautiful horse. The horses are such a big part of this parade, but it's hard to get good pictures of them.

Hm. I have a feeling I know your stiltwalking Uncle Sam there, but can't quite be sure from that distance! I do not, however, know the giraffe.

My pic is rather blurry, but I'll see if I can get a closeup for you.

If you want to look through more pictures, to see if there's anyone you know, check these out:

What a great parade! It's like being a child again. I'm so glad that such things still exist.

That is a great parade. What do they do with the floats when they are done? Do they belong to a real circus?

They come from the Circus World Museum in Baraboo.

I have never been there and it is not a real long trip from our house. Guess I will put that on my list of places to see...thanks!

From what I recall of going there when I was a teenager, the main attraction is the circus wagons in the barns.

John saw me looking at these and said you take very good pictures. I agree. There are two people in the 10th picture that look like Sara and Ian! If Ian had a beard. He might. I haven't seen him lately.

The guy with the sunglasses and Dr Pepper? Ask him.

The guy on the next floor up, second from the end on the right, seems to have been looking right at me (from the blown up original version).

I haven't seen Ian in at least two months but next time I do I'll ask him where he was standing for the parade. It does look like that guy is looking at you. :)

Okay, I blew up the people in question. Definitely not Ian and Sara. And I can't quite tell for sure if that guy is looking at me, but I think he is.

Close up the two people look NOTHING like Ian and Sara! *L* The girl is like 10 years younger and a little chubbier. I think that other guy was looking at you.

Is any of that stuff from Baraboo?
I love the old fashioned circus wagons, so over the top. I do find the elf figure in the third picture a little creepy, though.

The elf with the chain? Next to the anatomically correct poodle? The poodle's a little odd looking too. Odd also, because this wagon had an African theme.

Yes, they're from Baraboo. Some of not all of them.

Yes, the elf with the chain is creepy. And now that you mention the poodle...him, too. Circus art has always creeped me out.

how exciting, a circus parade! Everything looks so fresh and clean and shiney, here! Was there a calliope, anywhere?

Date: 2009-07-16 05:46 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] low-delta.livejournal.com
Two of them. One, a steam calliope is seen in the fifth picture. I forgot to label it (I'll do that now). That one brought up the rear of the parade. There was another air powered one, that I didn't see.

This will be around, like reenactments from pioneer days. :-\
