I don't understand why people hate the Twitters so much. I prefer your "real" posts, so I hope you're not giving up regular posting for Twitters, but if you have a little extra to say when you're not at a computer, or think you can amuse me, go for it.

Someone recently said she found them hard to read, and that's fine, but to say that 90% of Twitter posts are inane, so you're not going to read any of them, just seems kind of... I don't know. Dumb. And people like to tell you this. I think they make too big a deal out of it. Twitter is the hatred du jour, I guess.

I find it really annoying to read. I just tend to skip them, but it's hard not to be annoyed. I'm not annoyed because it's cool to be annoyed by Twitter, I'm annoyed because I genuinely find it annoying, and have ever since people started posting their twitter digests.

It's kind of the same as when people post tons of quizzes.

Really? Would you read something that was 90% stupid and useless, for that precious 10%? Why waste 90% of your time?

I only have a couple of people who post them, so I don't have a problem skimming them to see if there's something worthwhile. There isn't always, but in my, say, 20 minutes on LJ, it takes maybe five seconds of my time. But I suppose if you didn't express your annoyance, more people would do it, and it would become even more annoying.

I just find it really odd that when someone says they don't read them, half their friends list agrees with them. Not all of do so in terms of hatred, but I fail to understand what gets anybody riled up about it. Or even opposed enough that they take any opportunity to say so.

Why? If I gave up reading....say, fashion magazines, because 90% of the articles were dumb, nobody would try to argue me out of that, saying "But the remaining 10% are so worth it! Keep wasting your time, for that hidden 10%!"

I think it's just a process of trying to adapt our lives to technology as it changes. I use lj to keep up with my family, but I had to ask them not to post REALLY important info on lj, without calling me first (like "I was in a car accident" or "I got engaged"...both real examples) because I missed it amid all the other lj stuff.

So now, I request of my friends that they not rely on me to read their Twitters, because chances are I won't be slogging through the 90%, on the way to that one bit of info I wanted.

I guess that was the main point of my posting. I probably should have said just that.

I have my own issues with people using LJ to mention important things, and not doing it well. I think it's safe to say that nobody (on my friends list) would use Twitter that way, but if I was reading the rest of my LJ only for important news, I'd give up after a week.

Yeah, what they said above! There's way too much input to have to sort through as it is, we don't need twits, er, twitters, to add to it all. Besides, I prefer pasticcio's Tuesday Twitches.

I'm one of those weird people who reads most of his friends page.

well, yeah, i try, which is why i hate twitters. if i wanted to read twitters, i'd go to twitter, but would rather not waste time on them in my lj friends page.

I do find them hard to read but, I didn't see anyone who said, 90% of Twitter posts are inane. Everyone I thought, was pretty respectful of the right to twitter if they wanted to.

Some people say they're hard to read, but most say they just don't read them. Why is that?

If it was only your post, there wouldn't be enough consensus for me to form an opinion about the complaints. I only know two people who do them, and more people than commented in your post have complained about them. I just don't get why people are so opposed to them.

My guess is they are hard to read, and don't follow any particular thought pattern. Just random thoughts. It's just not my cup of tea. I gather quite a few people feel the same way but, whatever floats your boat. If you wanna twitter, twitter.

I haven't heard many people say they were hard to read. I'm only guessing that most people find them useless. I'm not sure about that, because a lot of a lot of people's regular posts are pretty useless too. So what's so special about Twitters?

I've got one person who posts Twitters every day. I just looked back through them, and the only ones I really wasn't interested in were ones that were directed at a particular person. Most of them were relevant comments. Meaning they were either "this is what I'm doing" (which is a huge chunk of what everybody's posts are), or they were somewhat humorous thoughts. There was one I was just thinking, as humans, we don't have very good natural defenses. I mean, fists?--Come on! That's a great Twitter. So what if either of these types are only one sentence. Seems like some people would prefer the shorter versions.

So people have a problem with one-sentence posts. You would seem not to mind if they're not in the Twitter format, but I wonder how other people feel about it. Unfortunately, I can't ask, because I seem to have pissed people off.
