Every time I go on there, I hate it even more. I can't find shit on there. Someone sent me a personal message, and it was over a month before I even noticed.

But now, I got an e-mail from Facebook, telling me "Check out my photos on Facebook". That's a little odd, but fine, whatever. This friend apparently went through her e-mail, and sent out some requests. Still fine. But the link in the e-mail doesn't take me to her Facebook. I have to do a search for her name to find her. Then I have to send a message, just in case it's not her, since I can't see this person's profile. WTF? Fortunately this friend was fairly easy to find, but some friends have some rather common names, and would appear on, like, page ten of a search. They don't really want us to join, do they?

But now it gets weird. At the bottom of the e-mail, it mentions two other Facebookers. Above their names, it says "See who else has invited you to Facebook:" I'm fairly certain these people did not invite me. Why does it say that? And more importantly, why does it show these particular people? One of them is friends with Cyn. So it could be showing some mutual friends. The other person I don't know... on FB. I do know her in person, but we have no FB friends in common. She went to my high school. That's probably it. Very strange that it's someone I actually know. I saw an ad for an app that shows you who's been searching for you. That's scary. I wonder how it works.

I'm discovering that you really have to *watch your step* on there, but it has put me in touch with a few people that I would not have heard from otherwise. Yes, I agree that it's confusing.

So far, it's put me in touch with only one person I wouldn't have heard from otherwise. I'm not too happy about hearing from that person.

Well mine are mostly former students and some relatives that don't keep journals. I'm fine with it at this point.

just block all the applications... it's easiest to not have to think about it... i do almost by default...

It took me a minute to figure out what that even meant. I suppose I'll have to check back every so often, to make sure that they're still blocked.

since most people who send you stuff that isn't email are in fact applications here's also what i do...

when you get the dialogue box that says "accept" or "cancel" in small print underneath there's a link that says "block this application" i click on that by default now and you won't get anything else sent from that app...

also under "account settings" there's a separate listing for application settings... on the top there's a pull down menu with all the different types of apps... "active" "authorized by you" etc. you can block or control the apps the easiest from that dialoge...

I avoid the gimmicks, but the layout is not very intuitive.

Facebook is idiotic...I'm really thinking seriously of cancelling my account there. It's got all kinds of annoying, unhelpful features that are driving me up the wall...

I still don't really have an understanding of how it works. What shows where, and all that.

I created it mainly so if anyone from my past really wanted to find me, they could. But so far, the only person who has found me is the one person from my life whom I've always wanted to forget.
