disappointed that so many of his friends seem to be abandoning LJ for Facebook.

I haven't!

Me either!
Yes I have a Facebook acct.
After some thought I decided that since I have no listed phone or address Facebook was the next best thing. So I signed up.
Absolutely hate the interface. Stupid, clunky, and reduces conversation to sound bite size (better now, but not enough).

Beside, I love my LJ friends. There is no way that Facebook could compete with 7 years of friendship! That said, at least two of my friends who won't use LJ have begun to use Facebook. So far it reminds me of e-mail with them.
Harrumph!!!

oops, that was me, forgetting that Mozilla needs fixing...

Funny - though I don't find Facebook to my liking, for many reasons, most of my posts here have become "bite sized."

Beside, I love my LJ friends.

The only reason I go there at all, is because there are a couple of people who post there, that don't post here, including a former LJer.

I have quit writing the "stories" in my head, which took a lot of thought to do, and have settled for a more "stream of consciousness" posting style, but my posts cannot be said to be "bite" sized....

Agreed.

Is that why LJ has been slower than normal? I hadn't realized.

There aren't too many of those people, at least on my f/l, but if half my f/l posts a fraction of their normal posts there instead, it LJ could slow down a lot for me.

A resounding ME TOO.

*sigh* Yeah.. me too.

Oh dear! Well, Facebook certainly is a totally different thing. I do like the games... It's a new toy for me right now.

I'm sure not abandoning LJ though. I LOVE LJ.

I haven't either. I do have friends on Facebook that don't have LJ, so I keep in touch with them there, but LJ is still my choice!

Facebook makes me feel guilty. Every time someone sends me something - a plant, a fish, whatever...I feel as though I HAVE to return the favor. Facebook is a lot of pressure!

I'm refusing to do the "gift/meme" thing. If for no other reason than I don't want my ID in all those databases.

I click Ignore and move on. Always.

It's the latest big thing... when facebook gets so busy with memes that you can't use it, people will move on.

A lot of people started using it when LJ had their big end-of-the-world thing, and it seems most of them stayed active there. The LJers didn't just use it to keep up with each other, they found lots of friends there. The kinds of friends that Facebook is ideal for keeping in touch with. Superficial contact for acquaintances you kinda like.

I have found that lj has been quieter since more people have gone to facebook. I go to facebook, but I still like lj better.

i only have a FB and MS account to tell people looking for me where to find me. funny thing is, most of them don't even bother to read my profile and come over here to visit. i figure if they can't even read two sentences and follow one link, they aren't that interested in communicating with me.

I've got to agree with this.

Maybe it is just from years of LJ use, but I -always- want to know who I'm talking to. Isn't that what a profile is for?

Date: 2009-03-19 02:41 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] low-delta.livejournal.com
Facebook is so popular because it puts people in touch with a whole lot of their acquaintances. It's perfect for that sort of thing, because the contact is so superficial. You see their picture, you reply to some inane thing every few weeks, maybe share a laugh, and you're "staying in touch."

Not me. I tried it and found it wanting.

I do not think LJ is replaceable by FB. perhaps that's because I use them for different reasons.

LJ is much more in depth, and for me is more personal. LJ also needs a larger block of time for me to use it the way I like.

FB is fast, and can be fun. But it's no LJ.
