I saw Brooke Shields and Donnie Osmond walking around in stores (not at the same time). The Brooke Shields was the weirdest - it was when she was in the middle of her modeling career (so, she was all of like 19).

Other than that, it depends on your idea of "celebrity" - that writer from the Wall Street Journal? The British Ambassador? The guy I knew in college who was an MTV-VJ for a while (after I knew him)? The guy who'd been in the Del Fuegos previously to coming to grad school where I met him? <--that's probably the most legitimate "meeting a celebrity" I can think of.

There are two levels of meeting celebs, for purposes of my post. Seeing them in public, and actually meeting and speaking to them. I guess you could say there are two levels of the latter - running into them and speaking, and an actual meeting.

The minor meeting one would be like running into someone in a store and having the nerve to say something to them. Or speaking while you're getting an autograph. That's what happened with the one celebrity that I've met (as Cyn reminded me), a meet & greet after a show by Tony Levin and his band.

I've meet a few famous artists and authors at conventions, and that sort of thing, but not even many that way (that I can recall). I'm not sure if you can call them celebrities. My dad's a locally famous person. I saw a local TV news reporter in the mall once. *shrug*

You only get 1/3 of the points, max. You didn't tell us who it wasn't and where it didn't happen...

(Oh, now I get what you're saying. Durr.)

Okay, I didn't meet Jello Biafra, and it wasn't in St. Louis.

Well, that sketch is knackered then, innit?

Is that a clue?

Bobby Goldsboro at SOME department store in 1972. Ron Ely (TARZAN) who knew my father. I met him yearly in college at the celeb tennis tournament. That would be between the years 1977 and 1982

I once stepped in front of Paul McCartney's car outside Covent Garden tube station and was nearly run over. We didn't speak. Does that count?

Yeah. Half points for seeing, rather than meeting.

Didn't you shake hands with Tony Levin?

Date: 2009-03-09 11:40 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] low-delta.livejournal.com
Yeah. I didn't really count that because it was at his show, rather than a chance meeting, but I did actually meet him (and the rest of his band - we spoke to Jerry Marotta more).

I saw Willem Dafoe at the post office once.He was wearing a big hat...And sunglasses-but I'm sure it was him!(No really, there's this place called The Cape near my mom's house, like a small camp/resort place, and he's visited during the summer for years.) I waited on his son Jack once when I worked at the video store, they had an account there.

He's got a recognizable face.

I met Kurt Vonnegut Jr. and instantly became an idiot. Luckily, I wasn't able to say much or I'd still be squirming in embarrassment.
