We're supposed to get a big snow storm tomorrow.

My car is a Mustang. It's rear-wheel drive, has wide-ish tires with not-great tread. I do fine with it in the snow, but I'm well-practiced (I prefer rear-wheel drive in the snow). I switched cars with the boy, because he needed a reliable car to take to Illinois. I hope he brings it back in one piece. His car is a POS Escort. I can't remember the last time I drove a car with manual transmission. It's front-wheel drive, and I'm not familiar with driving them in the snow. Okay, Cyn's car is front-wheel drive, but it's rather large, has good tires, an automatic transmission and traction control. I know I'd be slipping and sliding this little go cart all around. Or I'd burn out his clutch.

I am not the best driver in the snow, but I manage. Do you know what they do to us here in California? They make us put on tire chains. That's right, tire chains - unless you have 4WD car or truck with special tires on it. They do that at certain elevations in the high Sierras and put up road blocks.

Poor Devonne! They must be miserable with that big truck trying to drive in the snow.

We have to use chains on our tires when driving over snowy mountain passes here in Spain also. We also get the roadblocks where the police turn you back if you don't have chains.

I know exactly what you mean. I do that. Front-wheel drive cars keep traction better, but the problem is that once you lose it, you're toast.

I had a friend who once lost control on ice. He said he wasn't screwing around, but he probably was. His little Dodge Omni spun around and he hit a telephone pole - right on the front wheel. Shattered the transaxle. Totaled.

I had Cindy drive me to work. She offered that in the first place, when she gave up my car, but I declined yesterday.

Both you & hilltop seem more comfortable with rear wheel drive in snow--I hate it. I had rear wheel drive for years, now have front wheel drive, and it's so nice not to get stuck in the snow.

Could you stay home?

I had Cyn drive me to work. Too much going on here to take off.

Very cool. I'm glad you got a safe ride to work.

It turns out we didn't get much snow, and I could have driven it easily enough. But at least I didn't have to chip a bunch of ice off the windshield.

I rode to work and it concerned me; then I just stared at the low clouds for the rest of the day.

Good to know that it wasn't horrifying near the lake.
