I've been a lazy bum for a good year. This week I decided I really need to get things done. So today, I started right in with... ripping CDs to my computer. Great, huh? See, I get myself into these situations. I have a system, which I feel the need to follow. When we listen to a CD, it goes in a stack next to the stereo. When too many CDs pile up, I rip them, and then put them away. I needed to put them away, so I had to rip them first (determining which albums I hadn't done before, and which songs were worth taking). And then I had to organize all the music on my computer, and load the new stuff onto my mp3 player. That took all day. It now has 2974 songs.

Then, as long as I was organizing songs I went ahead and organized my pictures. I've gotten quite a few of them in the last month, and needed to put them where they belong. Then I needed to upload them all to my mp3 player too. And I noticed that some folders were messed up with things in the wrong places, and lots of duplicates, so I had to straighten them all out. That took a few hours. I hate quitting in the middle of projects like this, so I'm up late finishing it. I'm uploading the new folders right now.

Now it's finished, and it has 3181 pictures. That's a lot of pictures, considering that's only pictures I've fixed up.

There is --no possible way-- I would spend that amount of time on those items. I deeply admire people who do, but it is -so- not me.
We have a music server computer that is gradually mouldering away unused because I can't figure out where to put it.
Pictures are lucky to get transfered to the computer and thrown into general folders. Once every 6 months or so I correct one picture (badly) because it is the only one that was taken of something I wanted to post about.
Life is just too short!

Ok, gotta run and work on the rocks in the garden....
:)

Organizing the music wasn't a big deal (they all go into the same folder, and then everything in that folder also goes onto my mp3 player). Getting it onto my computer just took a while. Oh, and everything that goes into my mp3 player also might have to be added to my party playlist. That's a more time consuming job. I had to evaluate all of yesterday's 350 songs, and determine which ones would get added. Then I had to order the songs a little bit.

Organizing the pictures was a bigger deal. I had to decide where to move them. And figure out which ones were duplicates, and which of the duplicates I wanted to keep, and all kinds of questions like that. But it really does pay to keep them organized. I have thousands, and I very often need to find certain ones.

But I do sometimes ask myself that question - is life too short for this? The truth is there isn't any other way, unless I want to give up those hobbies completely.

Well, you organize music, and I'll bet you use it yourself, share it with others and so forth. I put rocks in my garden. Both make us happy, and allow us to ultimately to share the product.

BTW I really like the little bench garden you made.

Thanks. I'm looking forward to seeing your rocks.

What does "ripping CDs to my computer" mean? I have a picture of you trying mightily to tear plastic discs in half.

:-) Ripping is what we call taking songs from CDs, and making mp3 files from them. It might be more accurate to say I'm ripping songs from CDs, rather than to my computer.

So now that I have electronic files, I can play them from my computer or my mp3 player. That device plays music, and also has a video screen to show pictures, so I store photos on it also.
