The end of my Alabama trip included a ride on Amtrak, from Chicago to Milwaukee.

I rode in the quiet car. I didn't know it was the quiet car until they announced it. No cell phone conversations, please talk in hushed tones, blah blah. And it wasn't crowded. It was nice. I had my mp3 player, and, sensing my tiredness and my mood, it played mostly mellow selections. I dozed a bit, and took a few pictures.

you know, i must be in a weird mood, but i was just thinking about how strange it is that we can sleep around strangers like that. sleep seems like an intimate thing, in a way, yet i would venture to guess that nearly everyone has slept (not counting children) around people they don't know.

just a strange thought.

We're conditioned that it's okay to sleep in certain places, like trains and planes. And we don't really seem to care that people are looking at us. When we flew back from Hawaii, my head was lolling into the aisle, and I didn't much care. :-)

That second picture made me laugh out loud.
:D
Quiet cars are such good ideas.

Oh how I wish that they had "quiet cars" on airplanes!
The train looks really nice actually.

That would be interesting, to have a flying train.

Huh? Maybe I should have said "room"?

...my brain just went immediately to the surreal when I thought of train cars+planes.

I was also a little surprised at the difference in the noise level of the train, as compared to the noise level of the planes. Those jets are just plain loud.

Looks like a fairly comfortable way to travel and from the 2nd picture the choice of businessmen!

The motion vs static in the first photo is awesome! ZooOOOOOm!

I appreciate the quiet car.

Some trains here have a quiet carriage. The first thing on the list of things that you shouldn't do is listen to music with headphones! 8~D

Why? So you can hear how quiet the carriage is?

I must admit that I find really loud music played through headphones sounds really annoying when I can hear it from several feet away.
