First thing Thursday (after breakfast and a walk around the neighborhood), Ranunculus met us and we walked over to Golden Gate Park, where we met her Donald (his LJ name is sligachan, but I always forget that because I never friended him, for some reason) at the California Academy of Sciences. It's part museum, part zoo, part... lots of things. They've got a planetarium, a dome with a rainforest exhibit, several large ocean aquaria, their legendary African Hall, and a "living roof."

The roof is covered with native vegetation. It provides insulation for the building, and the hatches provide both light and ventilation.

I think that's a blue whale skeleton.

They have a Foucault pendulum knockin' pins down.

This is the Philippine Coral Reef exhibit.

This is the Northern California Coast exhibit.

I think this guy was defending his territory from my camera.

On friday morning, we walked over to meet Ranunc and M at the Conservatory of flowers.

Then we visited the Beautiful Japanese Tea Garden.

Thanks for sharing these.

You guys had some pretty neat experiences out there.

The living roof reminds me of the teletubbies. Could you walk on it?

We weren't allowed. There are railings.

Teletubbies? Oh yeah, the green, hilly backgrounds.

Love the photos!

So much to see in the City. I remember the tea gardens. They are so beautiful.

Very cool. I wanna see CalAcad now!! it looks so nice now that it's updated.

I think I want a living roof... :) out here, though, it'd have to be mostly dirt.

All the plants on this one are good in dry climates.

You never friended Sligachan because he never actually writes anything. Just lurks errr, reads.

Yeah, I noticed that.

But I've met a lot of LJ people, whom I like, and whom I never friended. I imagine some of those people are disappointed.

I'm sure wishing I could go there, though I am not sure about that bridge! The pictures are great Kevin!

Looks like the kind of place we love to visit. That living roof is just cool. That bridge is great.
I'm really enjoying all the photos you and Cyn are posting.

That bridge looked like it was hard to walk on. Love the pictures!

It was more like a ladder. Thanks!
