So let's say Cyn and I were going to the San Francisco area for a few days. Are there any sites that we would want to see, or activities to enjoy?

Definitely take a drive up and down the coast highway.

That sounds nice. I definitely want to get out of the city for a bit.

the exploratorium is cool, and SF has a very good modern art museum. i always enjoyed a walk through golden gate park (be sure to visit the smelling garden). if you want a real hike, you could go across the bridge and climb mt tamalpais.

Mount Tamalpais does have quite the hike!!

I would love a real hike. I don't think we'll have time for it, though. We've only a couple of days to sight-see.

Baker Beach. Don't bother bringing your bathing suits, if you know what I'm talking about, and I think you do.

Colma, the City of Cemeteries.

Golden Gate Park.

I'm attracted to the touristy places, like Fisherman's Wharf, Chinatown, Cable Cars, etc. And I heard there's a big bridge up there, too.

Why, because it's really cold there, and we won't want to go in the water?

Of course. What else could I possibly mean?

I figured that. I hear the ocean is pretty cold.

You'd need a year to see it all. The Bay bridge at night is thrilling.

Kevin,

You and Cyn would find so much to do, that 3 days would be too short a time in the City. Take a sweater and some good shoes.

Seconded. It is c-h-i-l-l-y.

Possibly warmer at this time of year, depends. Summer is the really cold season.

-Taste of the Himalayas for dinner!
-Crissy Field (I didn't go, but I wish we had time to).
-Alamo Square Park for a great view and to see the famous "Painted Ladies".
-Caffe Trieste (you'd probably like the North Beach/Telegraph Hill neighborhood, too)-- you could also stop by Coit Tower while you're in the area for exercise/a expansive view.
-Zazie for Brunch (in the Cole Valley--also a pretty neighborhood)!
-Anchor Steam Brewery Tour (seriously one of the best things we did...make reservations now!).
-Harigawa Japanese Tea Garden.
-Legion of Honor (fine art museum).
-Dolores Park (majestic views, pretty park, good people watching opportunities).
-Alcatraz is worth a pass if you have the time and inclination. Again: Buy tickets now.

The parks (and tower) sound nice. I'll make note of the restaurants, and see what area we're in at the time. Hmm. I think we'll have to take a map with everything marked on it.

I think we're going to try for Alcatraz.

Thanks!

You don't need to venture out of the city, but if you do decide to go across the Golden Gate bridge, do it early enough in the day to stop at the Light House Cafe in Sausalito for breakfast.

And just wandering through Chinatown in the evening is trippy.

Get up, leave the city, cross the bridge, and then have breakfast? Sorry, but I like breakfast in the morning. ;-)

20-25 minutes isn't the whole morning

It is, by the time I get there.
