What are the issues that are important to you when deciding where your vote is going? Guns? Education? Big government? Morality? Abortion? Are there any specific segments of the larger issues that are more important to you than other parts of them.
I'm not concerned with your stance on the issue, so much as I'm wondering what the issues are, that are important to people (unfortunately, this sample group is rather small). Feel free to comment anonymously.

I'm reluctantly of the opinion that the right to bear arms is more important than banning them.
Morality and Abortion come under my heading of separation of Church and State; the State should not be deciding such questions for me.
Big government is always an issue. Everyone wants the services that "Big" government provides, but doesn't want to pay for them. I'm of the opinion that trimming things now and then is good, however we have now been through a good "trim" session and it's time to go forward.

Date: 2008-09-16 09:05 am (UTC)From:- get rid of capital punishment (which isn't an issue here, as no one's seriously suggesting reintroducing it)
- universal health care (and not delivered via private insurance companies either) - I find it quite weird that education is seen as something to be provided to a certain extent as of right, but not health care.
- ban firearms except for sports/recreation, and in those cases license both each gun and each gun owner.
- rework the electoral system in such a way that more than half the people feel that it's worth voting.
- some sort of equivalent of our repeal of s59.

Date: 2008-09-20 05:44 am (UTC)From:S59. Domestic discipline -- (1) Every parent [of a child and, subject to subsection (3) of this section, every person in the place of the parent of a child is justified in using force by way of correction towards the child], if the force used is reasonable in the circumstances.
It didn't actually end up getting repealed entirely, but it was amended in such a way so that those parents who were escaping prosecution for severely beating their children because their use of force was 'by way of correction', should longer be able to do so.
- oh, and I forgot the first time: fully adopt the damn metric system! :)

A proper exit strategy out of Iraq.
Ethics--real ethics, not fake morality people can wave like a flag.
Single payer health care
Fixing social security
Repairing our infrastructure--bridges, roads, etc.
Women's biological rights.
Education--ideally, I'd like most college to be free.
Fixing our economy...
Just for a start, anyway.
