We took my niece and nephew to the zoo yesterday. They seemed to have a good time, for the most part. Me too, I guess. They fight more than they used to. And as nice as the zoo is, I've seen it before, a few times. There's always something different, though.





Usually, we have to prompt the kids for some of their excitement - what was your favorite animal? - but this year, Jake asked us what our favorites were, first. Next year, I'll have to pay attention better, and have an answer in mind. I did enjoy watching the very active octopus. I've got some video, but I can't find my editing program.

I keep coming back to look at both of these pictures. The lighting and colors in the picture of Mahal make it so private seeming. I'm not sure how to describe what I mean. I like the elephant pictures too. The closest one must of just got out of it's pool and it looks like just the tips of it's ears were dipped.

I don't remember if there's even a pool in the elephants' enclosure, but there must be.

I had a lot of trouble getting good pictures that day.

You saw a baby orangutan! That picture makes me fall over from the cuteness.

Mahal, the orangutan is 16 months old. He was rejected by his parents, and then a new surrogate mother died. He was then sent here to Milwaukee, where his new mother loves him. There are a couple more pics of him here (http://cynnerth.livejournal.com/2688512.html). Just after I took the one of him and his mother, she kissed him.
