The people who enabled Harris and Kleibold's (the Columbine school killers) killing spree were sued for damages. Their parents who were not careful to keep the guns out of the kids' hands, will pay $1.6 M, and the guys who sold them another gun, are paying another $1 M. The money will be distributed to the families.

The two men who sold are/were in prison for selling a gun to a minor.

I think that all of them should be charged for their crimes, and that's it. I'm sick of this greedy, I want compensation crap. Well, maybe for funeral expenses, or things like that, but I don't believe any amount of money can compensate for the loss of a loved one. So why try? I seriously believe that. It's life. Deal with it. It's awful. It's a tragedy. But do they deserve a couple hundred thousand dollars for it?

And I'm not even going to go into whether it was really the parents' fault - although I guess they are responsible for their children's activities, in a legal sense.

how sad

to put a price on the life of a child......i wonder if the suit started with a parent walking into a law firm and wanting help, or if a lawyer approached a parent.......or if the parents were hounded by a multitude of lawyers?......just what were the contingency fees on these suits?

Well said.....

I completely agree. $1.6 M.... I couldn't imagine how the parents would pull that kinda money together. Then I read an article that said it would come from home owner's insurance.

Holding the parents responsible because the kids are dead......should this always be the case then? Whether the kids are alive or dead, the parents be held responsible as well?

I'm thinking that holding the parents responsible was simple because the two boys were minors.

Philip Duran woked with Harris and Kleibold at a pizza place. He introduced them to Mark Manes, who sold them a handgun. Duran and Manes agreed to pay a combined $1 M.

I think that is even stupider than the parents having to pay.
