If a person kills another person, and is convicted of the crime, he is sent to prison for a long time, or maybe executed. When a corporation kills someone, it is fined. And then it is business as usual? Why does it not lose its freedoms? Its ability do do business as it pleases?

Literal. Like negligence, or defective product, or poor working conditions, or lack of safety measures.

not to stand on any side in this issue, but one has to realize that some industrial accidents are caused by lack of common sense.....for instance, a man was killed, asphixiated, while he slept in a pipe that was being welded on up north.....the company was assessed huge fines by OSHA and criminal charges were filed at the request of the next of kin......those charges were thrown out by the judge.......it seemed, the man, crawled up the pipe and around a bend, laid out a few jackets and went to sleep.....the contractor still had to pay the OSHA fines, and the death is a sad statistic.....but i don't see it as the contractor's fault.....other than they hired a person who had a "lapse in judgement" to be on their crew.....

That's fine then.

But there are cases where the companies are found grossly negligent, and business continues pretty much as normal. If this negligence was my personal fault, I would be sent to prison, and life as I know it would end.

that is one of the reasons that my engineers seal stays in the drawer......somehow, that seal, means that i am liable for my designs for the rest of my life, at least in this state......
