Pope Benedict, in a new encyclical released on Friday, said atheism was responsible for some of the "greatest forms of cruelty and violations of justice" in history. He conveniently forgot to mention that religion was responsible for many of the others.

Pretty absurd, isn't it? I went to the Catholic church, when I was a kid, and I have nothing positive to say about it. I spent half my childhood thinking I was going to hell--it's sad, really! :)

Oh, it's really not close. I mean, not to knock religion, but most of the wars fought in human history were rooted in some religious conflict. Atheism wouldn't even register on the scale by comparison.
