I can't stand commercials. Partly because they're useless to me. They're a waste of time when I could be watching a program or listening to some music. And partly because they're noise. On the radio, when I should be hearing music, I hear noise. The same goes for talk radio. I really need to focus on the talking so that it's not just noise. I can't just have it on. I have the same problem with TV - I have to be watching it, or it's nothing but a distraction. After a while, this noise just gets on my nerves.

People who don't mind sitting and watching commercials are alien to me.

I don't really like watching TV with other people, at all, though. If I've made the effort to be with them, I'd rather be spending that time talking with them.

One friend that I visit has it on all the time, by default. If I ask him to turn it off, he gets mad at me for trying to tell him how to be.

Yes. T.V. goes OFF when I have guests, and I hope to be treated the same way. If not, I think twice about going back for a visit.

If I watched TV myself, I probably would. Somehow I don't think my friends would be very receptive if I showed up at their homes with a DVR. ;-)

I would instantly love any friend providing me with free dvr!

I guess then you wouldn't be interested in THIS.

I figured someone would bring up the entertaining commercials. :-) Too bad (1) they're not more common and (2) you don't need to see them more than once or twice.

I mute them. And barely watch TV as it is.

100% agree. Love my programs, but hate commercials.

Strangely, it's even more annoying to watch something on the VCR, and have to fast-forward through them. Of course, we don't have a remote for our VCR.

Our vcr marks the commercials and then give you a blue screen while it ZIPS through them. I love it, and I encourage the tv watchers in the house to record their shows with it instead of suffering through the commercials.

We really don't have the tv on much at all around here. I like it that way.

There are a few commercials that are on when I'm commuting to work, that I dive for the mute button.
