I was out digging up irises today, and I saw this little guy.

He looks like a clod of dirt. I love the baggy, wrinkly skin. He was moving pretty slow. I guess that's because it was cool out there. He's about three inches long.

I also discovered this puffball (I think) had grown a lot since I last saw it. It's about four inches across.

Here are my fall colors.

Does anybody want any of the irises?

He's a big guy! He looks like he's bowing to the altar of St.Iris. :)

"Save me from the giant, o great and powerful St. Iris!"

Cute toad!

Wish I had toads....
One of my goals is to obtain a (local) toad or two for my garden.

I'd be interested in a few irises.
Want any of my plain white ones?

I'll take as many as you want to send me. Thank you. We have a lot of gardens here.

Oh, it's *very* damp where you live. See my comment about the fungal leaf spot in my other post (http://community.livejournal.com/freekeesgarden/58663.html).

That's okay. We've got some sloped ground where it stays relatively dry (even for here). There are some in some pots on the 2nd floor, and they do fine. I just cut the babies back to ground level in the fall, and get new growth each year.

Meucci is drooling at the computer screen. He regularly flips frogs at out doorstep and then sits there as if he's un-involved.

Escher has trouble with mice. Maybe a toad would be an easier playmate.

No no no! See my comment below!

If Meucci hooks up with a TOAD he will have regrets. They can protect themselves where frogs can't. Meucci will look like he has rabies and will try to shake all the foam away. :-)

Well, that might be entertaining...goofy cats....

It's amusing, but scary. I still remember when Tigger tried to pick up a toad.

Frogs are different. I don't think they have a natural protection except escape into the pond! Toads don't go into the water.

I hope your little toad sticks around! They are wonderful for eating pesky bugs. Robert is always trying to avoid them with the lawn mower. Don't let Escher bite at him though or Escher will be foaming at the mouth. Toads have something on their skin that protects them from predators. The first time you see it you think that your pet has rabies!

I am very happy that you gave us one of your beautiful Irises. Thank you again!

Escher never goes outside. No worries.
