The fridge was getting pretty gross, so we bought a new one. It was supposed to arrive between noon and three, but they called at ten, saying they were ahead of schedule and would be over in ten minutes. So I got dressed (I hadn't even made it through my friends page yet) and emptied the old one.

I try to keep up with chucking out the expired stuff, but I guess I missed some things last time around. The mayonnaise didn't have a date on it, but I'm pretty sure it's a year old. Several other things had "best by" dates from January to November 2005. Glad I got that taken care of. Seems pretty empty now.

And it's smaller than the old one. I think. It's a couple of inches narrower (noticeably, inside), and an inch or two taller. It seems a lot taller since it's got one less shelf. There's a lot of empty airspace, which doesn't help to retain the cold when you open the door. We seldom have enough to fill it, though.

But at least the door seals right. This one will probably run half as much as the old one. And it's much quieter.

All my life, I've lived with other people in shared houses (etc) - or with family - with full-sized refrigerators. When I moved in here, I bought one step down from full-sized, and for the most part it's not a problem. The only thing I could ask for is a little bit more freezer space.

Yeah, our freezer is usually pretty well full. This one seems a little larger than our old one. I'm not sure if that's true or not.
The art of refrigerator maintenance is not mine. I find things from time to time that astonish me.
Ha ha! I think it shall henceforth be referred to as the Frigid Hare.

Recently, I cleaned out the fridge at work. There was some amazing stuff in there.
Yeah, if you marvel at the possibilities of god's creation. Or if you're into, art. You should have seen all the colors!

My experience has been that the colors are pretty much limited to earth tones... :-)
I was pretty impressed with the red mold on the green beans, but it was kind of a darker red.

I will never EVER clean out a work fridge ever again. They are hotbeds of social unrest.

social or microbial unrest?

I did it on a friday after everyone else had gone home. And I was pretty safe in what I threw out. There were things with year-and-a-half old expriation dates, that were *in front of* things without expiration dates. I left a few things that still seemed good, but I'm sure nobody will touch them anyway. Nobody knows or cares about what was left behind.
There was a fridge in one of the places I worked... *shudder* It was packed with to-go boxes and some of them were crying out for equal rights and/or medical attention. I grabbed the ones that were closest to me, killed them, and stuffed them in the garbage. Then I ran outside and had a cigarette, because I don't smoke, but I knew that would kill the smell.

Ew.

I didn't have too much trouble with smell, fortunately. Most of the things were in plastic containers. One of them came open on me, though. Ew. I was able to rescue one that had bagged goods inside it (I consider it my fee). All the rest were full of goo, and I didn't want to open them to clean them. I felt bad turning my back on them as they cried out for mercy. I'm sure many of them were perfectly good containers.
