We went to the beach one day.

Everyone asks why I didn't come home with a tan. That's because (1) I don't really tan, (2) I have to slather on the sunscreen and (3) we only did the beach once, for a few hours. As nice as that was, I can only sit still for so long, when there's so much else to see. Next time, maybe...

Poipu Beach was the main public beach in that town, on the "sunny south side." And being winter, the surf on the north side was too high to go in the water, so I was pleasantly surprised that the beach was not very busy. When we got there, there were only a few people in the water.

Families, couples, young, old, people getting sun, people in the water, swimmers, snorkelers, boogie boarders, beginning surfers, kayakers heading out...

A tan is just a symptom of potential skin cancer, anyway - it's highly overrated.

(But I do love just sitting on a beach and focusing all my senses on the ocean...)

Hence the sunscreen. But I think that a bit of a tan can help prevent a burn, which is even more of a cancer causer.

Once again, some really great pictures. Hawaii is beautiful.
