Cyn and I are going to Hawaii. (I'm sure half my friends list knows that already, but for the rest of you...) We've got our tickets, and should be booking a cottage on Kauai in a day or two. tonight, we picked up a couple of guidebooks. There sure are a lot of things to do there, for such a small island. I could spend a couple of weeks hiking. But I want to see the canyon, take a helicopter ride, a boat ride, see some beaches, do some surfing (no, not really). Did I ever mention I can't swim? That cuts down on the options, a bit. I hope I don't over schedule the week.
We leave on a friday morning. Milwaukee to St. Louis to LA to Honolulu. We arrive there a bit late, so we'll stay the night in Waikiki, and head over to Kauai after lunch. We only have five and a half days there. :-( On the last day, our flight leaves Honolulu at 7:00 pm, so we'll spend the afternoon in the area again. I hope to see the Arizona memorial. It's an overnight flight to Dallas, and then we get back in Milwaukee at 10:30 in the morning. That gives us the rest of the day and sunday to recover.

I want to go in a Helicopter when/if we go back. I'm sure that the canyon is so spectacular seen that way.

Date: 2007-01-14 09:39 pm (UTC)From:I expect that you could snorkel even if you couldn't swim: lying face down on the water's surface requires no skill, and you just wave your arms and legs a bit to move around. Best try it in shallow water, though.

Date: 2007-01-14 07:57 pm (UTC)From:You will be there when the Humpback Whales are off of Mau'i. If there is any way that you can get over to see them... DO IT. That's one of my favorite memories from Robert and I going the first time... back when Mau'i was not so darned busy. We sat outside of our hotel eating breakfast and watched a family of the whales swim by... talk about a fabulous experience!
You won't be able to snorkle off of Kaua'i (rip tides) but there is a small island not far away that is supposed to be fabulous. I think someone commenting ahead of me mentioned the name of the island.

Date: 2007-01-14 09:14 pm (UTC)From:Yeah, whale watching. I should have had that in my post up above. Definitely. There are a few boat trips that advertise whale watching cruises. Did your boat trip do much actual sailing, or mostly motoring?

We went out on a catamaran both times.. whale watching in Mau'i and then the dinner cruise off of Kaua'i. The second boat was the largest I think...

The Arizona memorial is a must in my opinion. There is never any noise.. no matter how many people. It just blows your mind.
