Thanks for all of your suggestions.

It looks like American is the leader right now. Delta had good prices too, but the schedule wasn't as nice (more layovers, arriving seven hours later). United had an okay schedule and was only a bit more. American had the more consistent recommendations from you all. Continental was twice the price, so they're right out.

I tried connecting from Midwest (my favorite airline) to Aloha, but their schedules don't match.

Question: can you check your bags early, at the airport? Like, six hours early? Just wondering what to do with the bags if we've checked out of the hotel, but the flight doesn't leave until evening.

Usually if you stay in the vicinity of the hotel, you can use its concierge service to hold your bags there until you're ready to go to the airport. But if you plan to be at the airport way early, I'm not sure how early you can check your bags there.

I never had any trouble arriving checking my bags obscenely early. :)
