It bothers me less that people are opposed to homosexuals marrying, than it does that people are happy to use the state constitution to define what rights certain people don't have. Strictly speaking, a constitution simply defines the laws by which a government must be run. But one of the things that makeme proud of this government and others like it, are the rights that are granted to the people by our constitutions. I don't think they should be used to take away our rights.

Moreover, let's look at the most basic principle on which this country was founded. The right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. To me, this means that everyone should be allowed to do what he wants, except where that infringes on the rights of others to do what they want. So how does gay marriage fit into that? Nobody has yet been able to explain to me how I can be hurt by allowing homosexuals to get married.

Let alone the fact that gay marriage was already against the law.

Edit: I just checked the State Constitution, and of twenty-six Sections, and a bunch of miscellaneous Articles, the only mention of denying rights to any citizen is that felons cannot vote or run for office.

And here's irony for you, a few states have actively started working at restoring some of those rights to felons. So homosexuals are worse than convicted felons? I love our society. I really do. No seriously.

Can it rain now?
