going west

We leave tomorrow morning for California. After we arrive in L.A., we'll spend the day with Marswalker, seeing Mt. Wilson Observatory and do some hiking, and who knows what else. On Sunday, Whathisname will show us around Hollywood and wherenot. On Monday, we'll pick up Shoo and drive to San Diego to visit her mother. On Tuesday, we take Shoo to Tucson to visit i. We'll spend the rest of the week there, probably doing some hiking. We're coming back next Saturday.

I've been to Minneapolis a few times in the last few years, but aside from that, the last time I was west of the Mississippi was in 1985. I went with my dad and stepmom on a trip to Colorado. We saw a lot of states on that trip. Before that, it was 1976, when we drove to New Mexico. And this will be the third time I've taken a trip by air.

it doesn't look good for me having enough time off to do much hiking, but i'll be working down in bisbee, which is a neat little mining town (google it). if you like, you guys could trek down there one afternoon, maybe friday, and we could hang out there. i'm pretty sure i can get off early friday, because the phoenix guys are going to want to get home. every day, i'll be driving back into town for dinner with you guys. also, i don't know if you like to have stuff planned out in advance, but if you do, let me know what kind of activities you are interested in (hikes, long or short, museums, parks), and i'll set you up.

well i definitely recommend that you go to the desert museum and saguaro national park, both of which are close and involve easy walking/hiking. mount lemmon is nice, too. it's about an hour and a half from my house to the summit, and there are numerous beautiful places to stop on the way up. you could easily use up a day on that alone. madera canyon, about 40 minutes south is also beautiful, and, if you are going to meet me in bisbee, you might go to the chiricahuas in the morning.
