Permanent accounts will now have up to 100 userpics.

Oh, oh, oh! Orgasm!

Okay, maybe not. I'm only using 22, now.

Where'd you see that? Last I saw, they were still coming with 50...

Oh, wait, is this 100 with the $10/year user pic upgrade?

Actually, I don't think the number of userpics is a deciding factor. A perk, maybe for some people, but I can't imagine *needing* that many.

I guess that bit was added later. I only heard about it today.

I think they said at "Greatest Journal," you get 1000 icons. Talk about overkill!

Really, I have 50 available slots and I have only uploaded 23, so yeah. 100 would be a bit much for me. But 1000? How do you even decide which one to use? How do you even remember which ones you have?! I can see some people scrolling through, having uploaded the same icon 4 or 5 times because they didn't even know they had already uploaded it!

And we have the drop-down menu to scroll through to choose the icon. 100 pictures, times the number of names you give each one, equals out-of-hand.

Eh. Depends on how you use it, I guess. I know people that would put it to good use.

I can't imagine why anyone would want that many user pics. I've only recently reached 10 of my allowed 15.

A permanent account now costs the same as six years subscription. That doesn't seem such a good deal. I originally got a paid account because I wanted to help LJ out. I'm less keen on handing over my cash now that LJ is much more clearly a business - I feel like a customer rather than part of a community.

Oh, stop moaning, J!

Community? Yes and no. I feel like part of a community. The community of my friends list. Plus there are all the little cliques I belong to, where many of my friends are friends with other friends of mine. It's fun. And LJ itself was hardly a community when I joined. It's not like I ever knew everybody.

On the other hand, I definitely feel like I don't have a voice in lj, and it seemed I used to. You know, back when there were less than fifty thousand of us.

When I bought the perm, it was a good deal, and there was the bonus of giving LJ my cash to keep it going. $150 may or may not be a good deal, but there's no feel-good part of handing over the cash.

I'm user number 16924 and I thought I'd arrived late. It's pretty inevitable that it became a business, I suppose, now there are millions of users.

I know what you mean. I held out even longer than you did. I'm 18150.

I think there was a sense of community for six months to a year after I joined. I'm just glad that it has maintained a semblance of its former self, even though it has become this big. It's still intended to be a good community site, as opposed to lining the posckets of the shareholders.

Young whippersnapper.

I remember when you could look people up by user number; when you could find every comment someone had made; when support just meant send an e-mail to Brad; when there was a topic system; when I was the only person who listed sausages as an interest...
