Went to a Scotch tasting. Was good. It was run by Signatory's North American marketing mangager. He put on a good presentation. There were less than fifteen people there, including a coworker of Cyn's and his friend. I learned a little bit about Scotch whisky production (knew most of it), and tasted a few "wee drams." A few of the Scotches were a bit weak, and a couple were too strong in the peat - medicinal tasting and smelling. I had 30yr Braes of Glenlivet. That was cask strength (114 proof). I bet iodine tastes like that. I bought a bottle of Isle of Jura 16 - I liked that one a lot. I also learned how to "nose" scotch. you need to keep your nose back from the glass when you sniff, or the alcohol deadens your sense of smell. I think I learned this a little late. But that explains why Scotch always smelled better at first.

So after ten glasses or so of the whisky, I had a bit of a buzz, which lasted over an hour afterwards. The taste lingered for a while too, and the chocolate chips complemented it well (thanks, Shri!). I took the night off from working of any sort, except for getting through a magazine. So it was nice.
