I went back to the duplex around 8:00, after searching fruitlessly for the manual for the water heater. The elements are showing resistance, so it's not them. I don't think they're getting current. I'm not sure what's up with the reset button. You'd think it would be able to be pressed, but it's immobile in the in/out direction. I think the breaker was tripped when I discovered the problem, but I'm not sure. I drained the tank for a bit, on the (very) off chance it was sediment buildup, but it probably needed it anyway. I hesitate to call a plumber since it seems to be an electrical problem, but I guess they'd know as much as anyone about the things.
Then I went to work on the last vent cover. Took a bit of trimming with the shears just to get the thing on the ducting. There was wood to screw into behind the left side, but on the right side, I had to use a toggle bolt. Since it's right on the edge of the drywall, I didn't have to drill a huge hole for the toggle to slip through, but only half of it was on the drywall. It all went in with only a little bit of struggle. I walked away taking all the satisfaction I could muster for a completed job. A few minutes later I went into the other bedroom, and noticed that vent cover was pushed away from the wall. The two are connected so in trying to force one on, I pushed the other one out. There seemed to be no damage on the other side, but the drywall was all broken up on this side. I trimmed the ducting again so the vent would go closer to the wall, but I don't know how I'm going to attach it.
Another three hours down.

Yeah, I wish you could pop over. At the very least, you'd be someone to back me up on my decision to call a professional. ;-)
