Wisconsin is quickly turning from a swing state into a conservative one.

Our state senate leader, Mary Panzer was defeated in the Republican primary. Her campaign literature is all about not raising taxes, anti-abortion, passing the concealed carry law and other various conservative causes (but mostly the taxes). She lost because she is not conservative enough. She compromises too much. She felt that her job as senate leader was to get things done, not have things bogged down. So she compromises. State Republicans are taking their cue from Washington and using their majority to push their agenda - no compromises.

And the guy who beat her is against abortion in all cases. You know, even the kind where if the mother is going to die, that's god's will, so we shouldn't be interfering.

I'm guessing that the guy is not opposed to capital punishment though. (Even if the state killing someone could be seen as 'interfering'.)

Yup...same old Republican game. Before long it'll be evil to be a Democrat and we'll have to sign a "Loyalty Statement" to stay in this country.

As for the guy who's against abortion in all cases....yup...his pro-life stance doesn't stand up very well when he makes a *choice* between the mother or childs life. Can you imagine how he'd explain that decision to a 3 or 4 year old survivor of the mother.

This country needs an enema.

And I know where to apply the enema bag.

hmmmmmmm, our US senator, Lisa Murkowski, won the republican primary over Mike Miller who was running because Lisa wasn't conservative enough......

That's heartening to me, but Lisa was the incumbent? That in itself usually counts for something.

In our case, it was the incumbent who lost. And she wasn't just an incumbent, she was the Senate leader.

yup, an incumbent, but she was appointed......by her dad, the new governor to his old senate seat.........and i'm not happy about that.....but, she's done a good job for the state and i could never vote for Knowles.......so, she has my vote in Nov.....

I don't think it's as dire a situation as all that. Here's why:
1) The die hards on the right and left show up more often during the primaries.
2) Mary Panzer pissed some constituents off, because she had gotten too arrogant, too busy, or whatever to return phone calls. Her opponent was very accessible and returned every call. I heard one caller on Joy Cardin's (sp?) show on WPR who said he agreed with Panzer's ideology, but she just wasn't there for her district.
3) BTW, her district was reconfigured recently
4) Some Republicans blame her for the failure to pass the so-called taxpayers' bill of rights (TABOR)

Re: Michels winning the US Senate primary: I heard three Democrats call in to so they pulled "strategic" votes for Michels, since he's supposedly less electable than ("the Right Russ") Darrow. Car salesmen rank below politicians on the trust scale anyway. I think Feingold is doing a good job explaining his Patriot Act vote (which he shouldn't have to explain)...

I also think that Feingold hasn't started fighting, since that was all the primaries. Now that he has an opponent, he can start his campaign.

He's got a lot of veterans on his side. I've just got to hope the public sees how Bush has been abusing dedicated service men and women who've already put in their time.
