Senator Elizabeth Dole said:
"Two thousand years ago a man said, 'I have come to give life and to give it in full.' In America, I have the freedom to call that man Lord, and I do. In the United States of America, we are free to worship without discrimination, without intervention and even without activist judges trying to strip the name of God from the Pledge of Allegiance, from the money in our pockets and from the walls of our courthouses. The Constitution guarantees freedom of religion, not freedom from religion. The right to worship God isn't something Republicans invented, but it is something Republicans will defend."
How is forcing me, by laws, to live the way the Bible says, freedom of religion? How is removing all traces of religion from governmental institutions preventing anyone's freedom of religion? And don't get me started on the "activist judge" bullshit.

..not freedom from religion...

WHAT!?! She said that? Does that mean religion is forced into our heads with sledgehammers? How do you force someone to have faith, of all things? Jefferson knew it was impossible.

"Believe! You must believe!"

Dammit, I want freedom FROM religion, too. How dare she.

Yeah, if it weren't for "activist judges," the Supreme Court would have recused itself from intervening in a state's sovereign bidness in Florida, circa 2000...

I saw a bumper sticker a long while back that read:

"Jesus. Save Me From Your Believers!"

As a Christian, and a conservative, let me be the first to explain to you just how...

...er...

....right you are.

The whole point of the Christian Faith is that people have to be free to accept Christ. If you are forced to it, then it isn't the gift of belief freely given, and it loses meaning.

I've taken to calling the GOP the Grand Old Pharisees....

ARGH! Okay, let's start writing an amendment for freedom from religion in government. Lord, help us!

I'm wholely unsurprised. We should dig-up the forefathers, and wrap them with copper wire, line their coffins with magnets and burry them again. Then when conservative morons make statements like that, we'd be able to generate electricity from them spinning in their graves...

Freedome of religion does not mean you have the right to choose which born-again church you attend. Being a patriotic american does not mean subverting the Constitution or Bill of rights to achieve your desired ends.

People who knowingly make these kind of statements are the real terrorists, destroying what the US is supposed to stand for.

We already have one.

I was referencing the from/of wording.

Well, it depends on your interpretation of the First Amendment.
