Our local "classic hits" station did what they call the Uncle Sam Jam this weekend. Every year for the Independence Day weekend, they play only American music. I'm not a big fan of this because most of my favorite rock is British. I find most American rock a little on the dull side. Sure, we have Jimi, and The Doors, but in my opinion most of the more interesting rock is British - Floyd, Zep, Yes, Supertramp, Traffic, U2, Tull...

Anyway, I really only listen to the radio in the car. I had it on on the way down to Milwaukee at noon today. A half hour trip, and about the best song they played was Steve Miller's "Space Cowboy." I'm not a huge Miller fan, but I like that one. An hour or two later, I drove over to Home Depot (less than ten minute trip) and I heard another Steve Miller song. After less than half an hour in the store, I get back into the car, and Steve Miller was on again. Fine. So around ten o'clock, I drive back home from Milwaukee. I listen to a different station. After a while, the techno got a little tiresome, so for the last ten minutes of the trip, I flip back to the classic station. Bill Joel again. Not happy, but I put up with it. Then, guess who they played after that? Abracadabra! Steve Miller!

Sigh

Well, I couldn't list them all. There isn't room! Besides, notice the Who isn't on the list either. :-/

Well, yeah, but still... grumble mumble

Don't worry about it. The post is about Steve Miller, anyway.

Just kidding. And I would've been a bit peeved to here so much of him, too!

I've got mixed feelings about Miller. I like some of his stuff, but most of it I would never miss. And I wasn't peeved so much as amazed.

Oh, well, then, nevermind. :)

I'm getting more and more agravated by KLH. The morning people irritate me more than entertain, and they play way too much Elton John, Billy Joel and other baby food. There's no meat and potatos to that station.

The morning show pisses me off more than it irritates.

I'd be happier if they played more classic rock and less classic hits.

How about if I called you the gangster of love?

Miller Park

I could have programmed that playlist. Are you kidding me with "Abracadabra?"

Where's all the Weird Al material? I know it's the midwest, but Beach Boys! Unfortunately, that burns out even easier in many cases.

It seems the more listenable songs by American rockers were from the 1960s, so that makes the whole thing more difficult.

Ice Ice, Baby.

This station plays classic rock from the late sixties and early seventies, and more recent stuff from those artists as long as they're not too loud (read: easy listening). Unfortunately, the Beach Boys qualify as oldies, so we don't hear them much.

And yes, it was Abracadabra that they played that fourth time.

Steve Miller. Filed next to Steely Dan. Unless you're going by last name.

I agree. If they'd throw in a whole lot more "deep cuts". There are other songs on all those albums.

OK, but luckily "Walrus of Love" is taken.

Oh, I always go by last name. Unless the name is just a title, like Jethro Tull or Uriah Heep.
