Yo-yo is amazing. I'd swear, for a while, he was playing two different pieces at once. His fingers just fly, and he makes it look so effortless. He played two encores, which looked like pieces he had chosen (or invented) just to show off. Simply amazing.

We were in row F, so we could hear his cufflinks clicking on the top of the cello. And his fingers slapping against the fingerboard. And his breathing. Perfect seats. (Usually, we sit in the back of the balcony.)

I'm glad you enjoyed the concert so much.

My about-to-turn 15-year-old niece plays violin (quite well, actually). When I asked my sister what to buy her for Hanukah last month, she suggested a Yo-yo Ma CD. Unusual for a teenager, but I was glad to oblige!

A Strad cello?? Wow. And so appropriate for his talent. You're lucky to have seen and heard him up close.

How great! That's the cello he left in a NYC cab, I'm pretty sure. A violinist maybe can forget that instrument in a cab... but this?

Anyway, very fun!

There were a LOT of kids there. The first two rows in front of the stage were filled with (extremely quiet and well behaved) high school kids. There were quite a few (also quiet and well behaved) younger children (grade school to middle school age) in the audience with their parents.
